Smartcard technology is widely used in educational areas. In most schools and universities, smartcard is used as a unique identity for the staffs and students in the campus. Almost everyone in the campus has a smartcard and they enjoy the convenience brought by using the smartcard technology.

A wide range of security and smartcard systems are installed in campus nowadays. This includes access control (for accessing different classrooms/laboratories), class attendance taking (for students to take attendance with their student cards), hostel management system (for students to access their room/pay charge for air-conditioning), video surveillance (for monitoring campus activities in order to protect students from harm), etc.

Power saving is the trend. With the room booking system for the campus, classroom can be booked via an online web browser. Upon the start of the booking time, the light, air-conditioner and door would be activated. The light, air-conditioner and door would be deactivated after the end of the booking time. The power consumption is minimized by the booking system to keep track the usage.
